💔 Tragic Loss: Iowa Prom King and Star Athlete Drowns at Rathbun Lake
A heartbreaking tragedy has rocked the Centerville community in Iowa. On June 26, 2024, 17-year-old Ayden Beeson—a beloved student, prom king, and standout athlete—was reported missing after going underwater while swimming in Rathbun Lake. He never resurfaced.
Just an hour later, Ayden’s body was discovered by the Appanoose County Water Rescue team in 15 to 20 feet of water. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Ayden had recently graduated from Centerville High School, where he was not only an accomplished football and tennis player but also a cherished friend and classmate. Known for his kind heart and infectious positivity, Ayden was elected Prom King earlier this year—a reflection of the love and respect his peers had for him.
💬 “There wasn’t a single person he wouldn’t treat with kindness,” said Superintendent Mark Taylor. “He was taken in the prime of his life, and our town is heartbroken.”
His coach, Tyler Baze, shared: “Being Ayden’s coach was an honor. He never backed down from hard work—he truly gave it his all.”
🎓 The Centerville Community School District also issued a statement, describing Ayden as “genuinely kind” and “deeply missed” by staff and students alike.
