I needed to run a few errands, so I asked my mother-in-law to watch my baby for a few hours. She seemed thrilled, and I thought it would be a nice chance for them to spend time together. But when I came back, I was completely shocked by what I walked into.
My little one, just barely able to sit up, was on the floor holding a cleaning rag. My MIL had her “helping” with the housework. She was guiding my baby’s hands along the floor, making her wipe up dirt like some kind of living mop. My daughter looked confused and upset, clearly unsure of what was happening.
I rushed over, scooped her up immediately, and checked her for any injuries. Thankfully, she was okay—but the whole thing rattled me. My MIL acted like it was nothing. “I figured it was easier than cleaning alone,” she said casually, as if that somehow made it okay. After that, I decided she could no longer be around my child. I just couldn’t trust someone who would treat my baby that way, no matter how well-meaning they claimed to be.
