My cat suddenly started acting unusually affectionate toward my mother, constantly licking her face and refusing to leave her side. Then, as my mother sat down on the sofa, the cat climbed into her lap—a complete surprise, since she usually only sits on my father’s lap and never anyone else’s.
We were puzzled by her behavior; it was as if she sensed something we didn’t. Moments later, my mother’s heart rate suddenly spiked to over 200 beats per minute. She suffers from episodes of tachycardia that often require hospitalization to bring her heart rate back to normal.
After she returned home from the hospital, the cat had completely relaxed again—as if she knew the danger had passed. That’s when it hit us: our cat must have sensed something was wrong and had been trying to protect or comfort my mother the entire time. We still can’t explain how she knew, but her instincts were incredible.
