It started on an ordinary Tuesday morning.
Anna was leaving her apartment when she saw it—a folded piece of paper lying right in front of her door, as if someone slipped it under the wrong mat. She almost ignored it… until she noticed her own name written across the top.
But the handwriting wasn’t familiar.
Curious, she picked it up, opened it, and read the first line:
“You didn’t hear this from me.”
Her heart dropped. The letter continued:
“Someone in your building has been secretly recording what happens in the hallway at night.
Check the camera hidden inside the fire alarm on your floor.”
Anna’s hands shook.
A hidden camera?
In her hallway?
At first, she thought it was a stupid prank. But the tone was too serious, too urgent. And then she noticed something that made her skin crawl:
The fire alarm device right above her door had a tiny red blink.
Blinking.
Watching.
She stepped back, shocked.
She immediately reported it to the building manager—but the manager claimed there were no cameras and insisted she must have misunderstood.
But that night, everything changed.
When she returned home, the fire alarm was mysteriously gone—unscrewed and removed. In its place was another note, smaller this time:
“You were right to report it.
But the person who installed it lives closer to you than you think.”
That’s when she realized:
Someone in the building wasn’t just watching the hallway…
They were watching her.
The next morning, the police arrived and began questioning tenants. Doors opened, neighbors peeked out, whispers spread down the halls like wildfire.
Within hours, an investigation uncovered that a resident from the top floor had installed the hidden device, claiming it was “for safety.” But the police confiscated a laptop containing far too many hallway recordings—and the entire building erupted into chaos.
People argued in the lobby.
Tenants packed suitcases.
Someone yelled that they were moving out “tonight, no matter what.”
And Anna? She stood quietly, holding the very first note—the warning from the anonymous neighbor she still hadn’t identified.
To this day, she doesn’t know who slipped that message under her door…
But she knows one thing:
Someone in the building watched over her—
just not the way she expected.
