About four years ago, Luca Trapanese made a heartwarming choice that changed his life for good and made him feel like he had done the right thing. Since then, he has had an amazing life with his daughter who has special needs. When the gay man applied to adopt, he was told that people like him could only adopt a child with a disability or behavioral problems.
He didn’t mind the clause, and in his application he said that he would be happy to take in any child, no matter how sick they were. When he was finally matched with Alba, he was overjoyed. He told them:
“It was the first time I held a baby who had just been born. I had always been scared before that. But when I held Alba for the first time, I knew I was ready to be a father.”
In 2017, an Italian man in his forties gave a 13-day-old girl the chance to have a family by adopting her. Because of this, he became the first single gay dad in Italy to legally adopt a child.
Alba had been turned down by 20 families because of her disability before she was taken in by her new family. But Trapanese, who had grown up working with people who had special needs, wasn’t scared away by the fact that the child had Down’s syndrome.
Since she came into his life, the father of one has admittedly found a new purpose and a happier, more fulfilling life.
The man from Naples has been open about how he met the little girl for the first time. He met her a few days after her mother left her at a hospital because she had Down’s Syndrome.
The system said she could be adopted right away, but no one wanted her, just like her mother. Trapanese, who had always wanted to be a father, had applied for adoption a few months before, after the law in Italy that said single parents couldn’t adopt was changed.

The system said she could be adopted right away, but no one wanted her, just like her mother. Trapanese, who had always wanted to be a father, had applied for adoption a few months earlier, after the law in Italy that stopped single people from adopting was changed.
When the gay man filled out his application, he was told that people like him could only adopt a child with a disability or behavioral problems.
After getting corrected and criticized by his two moms and other family members, he finally figured out how to be a parent. The dad was also happy that Alba’s grandmothers made it easy for him to become a dad.
Since then, Trapanese’s act of kindness has made him a social media star, with thousands of people going to his Instagram page to watch him play with his daughter.
When asked what made him want to help people in need and connect with people with special needs, the dad said that when he was 14, he lost his best friend to cancer.
After he lost his job, he started helping disabled people by giving his time to groups that did that. In 2007, he started his own organization called A Ruota Onlus. Its goal was to give disabled school-aged people a chance to meet new people and develop their talents.
So, they would be better able to fit in with the rest of the community. He hoped that more people would learn to accept kids with disabilities, not look down on them, and give them the same chances as other kids.
Adopting a child with a disability is one way to close the gap, but potential parents need to think about a few things to see if they are ready to take on the challenge for life.
