In the dead of night, a woman awakens to find her husband absent from their bed. Presuming he’s orchestrating a surprise for their 20th wedding anniversary, she dons her robe and descends the stairs in search of him.

Upon entering the kitchen, she finds him seated at the table, clutching a mug of hot cocoa. Lost in thought, he gazes at the wall, a tear escaping his eye, which she observes.

“What’s wrong, my love?” the woman queries as she enters the room. “You haven’t been sitting here all night, have you!?” she adds with concern. “It’s the 20th anniversary of the day we met,” the husband responds, lifting his gaze from his glass. Overwhelmed by his remembrance, she begins to cry. “Do you recall when we first started dating 20 years ago?” he asks. “I was 18 at the time, and you were only 15,” he adds solemnly.

Once again, the woman is moved to tears by her husband’s thoughtfulness. “Yes, I do,” she replies. The husband pauses, struggling to find the right words. “Do you remember when your father caught us in the backseat of my car?” he continues. “Yes, I remember,” the wife answers, taking a seat beside him. “Do you remember when he shoved the shotgun in my face and said, ‘Either marry my daughter or I will make sure you spend the next 20 years in prison?'” the husband recounts.

“I remember that, too,” she replied softly. He sighed and brushed away another tear from his cheek, saying, “I would have gotten out today.” They likely shared a laugh, strengthening their bond even further! At least they remembered their anniversary, didn’t they?
