With the knowledge that his life would positively impact others, Mars Bedell’s family found solace. At just 3 years old, Mars, a resident of Webster, Texas, cherished sports, superheroes, and all the joys of childhood.

Possessing his whole future ahead of him, Mars had the potential to pursue any path he desired, whether it be in medicine, athletics, or any other field he chose to explore.

On Sunday, July 3rd, at approximately 1:45 p.m., authorities received a report regarding a child found floating in one of the pools at the Baystone Apartments located at 800 West NASA Parkway.

When Mars went under the water, he was with his family at the pool. CPR was initiated immediately upon the arrival of emergency responders. The 3-year-old was then transported to HCA Houston Clear Lake Hospital.

Tragically, Webster police confirmed the boy’s passing at around 7 o’clock, exactly two days later, on July 5th.

The pool where the incident occurred was of standard size, with a maximum depth of seven feet. Additionally, there was a kiddie pool nearby, although it wasn’t specified which pool Mars was in at the time.

Despite the tragic circumstances surrounding Mars’s passing, his family made the courageous decision to have him donate his organs. In a heartfelt tribute to Mars’s altruism, family members, friends, and hospital staff from HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake gathered to line the hallways, honoring his legacy as an organ donor.

During the honor walk for Mars Bedell, his mother reflected on his love for dressing up as a superhero every day. She shared that Mars adored everything about superheroes and had always wished to go out dressed as one. In a touching tribute to Mars, some attendees even donned capes and masks to offer him a memorable farewell.

His mother expressed, “The only way I could think of to honor him and make him a superhero is by allowing life to be given.”

Mars, the little hero, continues to impact lives even after his passing. Last week, his organs were successfully transplanted into four individuals, including two children and two adults, offering them a chance at a new lease on life.

“Today, let us take a moment to honor and celebrate Mars Bedell,” a staff member said during a group tribute. “We commend Mars and his family for their selfless decision to donate his organs, providing hope and saving lives amidst profound grief.

Each person has a unique story, and Mars’s story is one of bravery and compassion that will be remembered for years to come.”

“Everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him instantly adored Mars. He was the sweetest and most lovable boy you could ever meet, with a passion for sports, Batman, Spider-Man, and money. May Mars’s legacy continue to inspire love and optimism in all of us.

We owe our presence here today and the gift of hope and life to Mars and his family. No words can adequately express our gratitude. So, if you would, let us take a moment of silence to honor the life of this little superhero.”

Mars used his organs to save others as he left this planet. A true hero who will live in all of our memories.
