Jennifer Garner paid a heartfelt tribute to her father, William Garner, following his passing on April 1.
In a social media statement, Garner, 51, announced the death of her father at the age of 85, acknowledging the inevitable feelings of grief that come unexpectedly.
Known for their strong bond, Garner previously celebrated her parents’ 59th wedding anniversary in January with a touching Instagram post.
Sharing a collection of family photos, Garner wrote:
“My dad passed peacefully Saturday afternoon.
“We were with him, singing Amazing Grace as he left us (did we carry him across or scare him away— valid question.). While there is no tragedy in the death of an 85-year-old man who lived a healthy, wonderful life, I know grief is unavoidable, waiting around unexpected corners.”
Expressing gratitude for her father’s long life and gentle demeanor, Garner added:
“We are grateful for Dad’s gentle demeanor and quiet strength. For how he teased with a mischievous smile, and for the way he embodied the role of an all-in, ever-patient father. We are grateful for his work ethic, leadership, and faith.”
William Garner played a significant role in his daughter’s life, evident to anyone familiar with the deep bond between the 51-year-old actress and her parents.
In September of last year, Garner made headlines after surprising her father with a touching gift for his 85th birthday.
Returning to her hometown of Charleston, West Virginia for a brief visit, Garner had arranged something special to commemorate her dad’s milestone birthday: a ride in his childhood car, a 1948 Studebaker Champion.
“Dad’s early birthday surprise: a ride in his childhood car — 1948 Studebaker Champion — with kind and generous David King,” Garner shared on Instagram, along with a photo of the father-daughter pair posing next to the vintage car.
