Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attracted attention when they decided to step back from royal duties a few years ago. Despite this choice, they have continued their charitable and public endeavors.
However, their recent visit to Nigeria reportedly caused some tension with Prince William and Princess Kate. Are the Sussexes concerned about their reaction?
Some argue that Meghan has lived in Kate’s shadow since marrying into the Royal Family. This perception persists even after Meghan’s departure from official royal duties. Kate, poised to become Queen of England alongside her husband, remains one of the most beloved royal family members, reminiscent of the late Princess Diana.
When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle moved to the US, it sparked widespread discussion among royal enthusiasts. Many speculated about potential drawbacks for their children, considering they would be distanced from close family members like their cousins Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Nevertheless, the Sussexes embarked on establishing their brand, though not without controversy. Many were annoyed by their portrayal of royal life and the allegations they made against several senior members of the Royal Family.
While the couple secured lucrative deals with Netflix and Spotify, the revelation of intimate details about their past lives for profit drew considerable criticism in the UK, reportedly including Prince William and Kate Middleton among those incensed by the Sussexes’ disclosures.
Harry and Meghan have shown little inclination to revisit any aspect of royal life. However, some of their pursuits seem reminiscent of typical endeavors of Royal Family members in terms of resource allocation.
The Invictus Games, founded by Prince Harry for global veterans, is undoubtedly a commendable initiative. Yet, given their recent activities, one may question if it’s also a strategic move to gain positive publicity.
Meghan Markle’s popularity is surging in the US. Engaging in conflict with the future king and queen may not have been the wisest choice for Harry and Meghan, but it appeared inevitable. Meanwhile, reports suggest that William and Kate are not keen on reconciling with the couple, which does little to improve their standing.
While Meghan’s popularity in the UK has declined, she seems to be gaining momentum in the US. According to a recent Newsweek poll, Meghan’s favorability rating is on the rise. Thirty-six percent of adults view her favorably, while 24 percent hold unfavorable views, resulting in a net approval rating of plus 12. Interestingly, this is the same approval rating as King Charles, for those who are curious. The Sussexes’ recent trip to Nigeria could potentially become a defining moment symbolizing Meghan’s resurgence.
Kate Middleton is undeniably beloved by fans in the UK. However, trust in her took a hit earlier this year when she shared a manipulated Mother’s Day photo, leading some to question the credibility of the monarchy itself. If honesty is lacking, what credibility can they claim?
Amidst Kate’s challenges, Meghan’s forthcoming lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, is set to launch, signaling a positive new chapter for her and Harry.
Upon their arrival in Nigeria, the Sussexes received a royal welcome, causing some surprise. A grand reception for two individuals who have distanced themselves from royalty? It seems their trip to Africa could be interpreted as a subtle form of retaliation against the monarchy.
Meghan recently revealed that she underwent a DNA test, uncovering that she is 43 percent Nigerian. This revelation provided Meghan with a clear reason to visit Nigeria. While the trip was initially planned to support Harry and Meghan’s work with the Invictus Games, the DNA test added a more personal dimension to the journey.
Harry and Meghan greeted the public warmly, taking selfies and enjoying the pleasurable aspects of royal life without the constraints of answering to the Firm. Meanwhile, their trip garnered significant, albeit unwelcome, publicity for Buckingham Palace, and the Sussexes didn’t even need to address royal matters to sway public opinion in their favor.
Royal expert Tom Quinn shared with the Mirror that William and Kate were upset by Harry and Meghan’s trip to Nigeria, as it closely resembled an official royal visit.
“Everything you might expect from an official royal visit was there – the receptions, the visits to schools and charities, to wounded soldiers and the disabled,” he remarked.
Meghan Markle’s ‘cold’ retaliation against Kate through the Nigeria trip was evident. Furthermore, the visit showcased Meghan’s more compassionate side. Given the significant value placed on community engagement, particularly in the US, the trip became a resounding success in terms of publicity.
But it wasn’t just beneficial for her personal brand. Meghan’s triumph may have also served as a calculated form of retaliation against Kate and the Royal Family. Why? Well, feeling deeply betrayed and wounded by them, Meghan witnessed a decline in her reputation following her departure from the UK and her outspokenness about her negative experiences there. In contrast, her recent endeavors, portraying her as compassionate and empathetic, are undoubtedly boosting her public image.
In the vast tapestry of royal narratives, there are countless stories of kings, queens, princes, and princesses. Perhaps Meghan’s journey has underscored that being a ‘non-royal’ princess comes with its own advantages, particularly in the realm of reputation restoration.
While Kate and her husband may indeed be reportedly “furious” about Harry and Meghan’s Nigeria venture, the Duke and Duchess are undoubtedly enjoying their time in their Montecito mansion, far removed from paparazzi photographers and royal protocols.
Of course, everyone, including Harry and Meghan, hopes for Kate’s swift recovery in her battle with cancer. However, this doesn’t preclude Meghan from seizing an opportunity to shine in the spotlight.
Meghan’s trip to Nigeria may have signaled a fresh start, yet she conducted herself with the grace and dignity befitting the princess she still is.
As for whether Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton will reconcile, that remains to be seen. Share your thoughts by sharing this article and expressing your opinion!
