Elizabeth Crooks, a 26-year-old mother living in Northern Ireland with her three children, experienced a frightening health crisis on July 20 due to postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). This condition, which affects the autonomic nervous system, causes a rapid increase in heart rate upon standing, often leading to symptoms like dizziness, nausea, and fatigue.
On that day, Crooks’ heart rate began to escalate uncontrollably, and she was unable to even sit up. Despite calling for an ambulance, she worried it might take too long to arrive because she wasn’t experiencing chest pain and remained conscious. As her condition worsened, her heart rate surged to 180 beats per minute, causing her to lose consciousness.
In a remarkable turn of events, Crooks’ six-year-old son, Aiden, sprang into action. Captured by the family’s Ring doorbell, Aiden ran outside to seek help from an Amazon delivery driver. In the video, Aiden is seen politely asking the driver for help, explaining that his mother had fainted. The driver immediately responded, entering the home to assist.
The driver quickly called emergency services, relaying the situation and the presence of two young children in the house. By the time the ambulance arrived, Crooks had begun to regain consciousness but was still in a weakened state.
Crooks later shared the incident on TikTok, highlighting the importance of teaching children how to respond in emergencies. The video quickly went viral, garnering over 400,000 views and countless comments praising both Aiden’s quick thinking and the driver’s swift response.
Grateful for the support, Crooks has since reached out to the driver to personally thank him. She expressed her appreciation for the overwhelming response to her story, hoping it serves as a reminder to other parents about the importance of emergency preparedness.
