Prince William made a solo visit to Wales the day after Kate Middleton’s heartfelt announcement about completing her chemotherapy following a cancer diagnosis earlier this year.
On September 10, William’s appearance in Llanelli held special significance for both him and Kate, as it marked nearly two years since King Charles named them the Prince and Princess of Wales after Queen Elizabeth’s passing. While Kate continues to focus on her recovery, she did not accompany William on this occasion.
On September 9, Kate, 42, shared an emotional video message revealing she had finished chemotherapy. The video featured William and their three children, Prince George (11), Princess Charlotte (9), and Prince Louis (6).
“This time has reminded William and me to appreciate the simple yet important things in life that are often taken for granted, like simply loving and being loved,” Kate said in the message.
During his visit to Llanelli, William met schoolchildren, celebrated local culture, and participated in events close to his heart. He began the day at Swiss Valley Community Primary School, where he greeted students in Welsh, saying “bore da” (good morning). Head teacher Jo Davies praised his visit, calling him “a gentleman” and noting that the school was honored by his presence.
William also met with students who had participated in the 2024 Urdd Eisteddfod, a festival celebrating Welsh language and culture. He spent time with Ruby Davies, a 10-year-old who won a Welsh reciting competition, and congratulated the children for their performances.
The day wrapped up with a celebration of Welsh rugby. William visited Parc y Scarlets, home of the Scarlets Rugby Union team, to support the Welsh Rugby Union’s “Missing Caps” campaign. He also met members of the national women’s rugby team, which recently qualified for the 2025 World Cup.
William and Kate share a special connection with Wales, having lived in Anglesey when William served as an RAF Search and Rescue pilot from 2010 to 2013. They spent the early months of Prince George’s life there, and have returned for royal duties since taking on their new titles as Prince and Princess of Wales.
William’s visit to Wales came shortly after his return to public duties following a summer break. He had also visited a London art gallery on September 5 in support of his Homewards campaign to end homelessness. His return to work coincided with his children’s start of the new school year.
