Avant-garde designs crafted from the weeds of royal estates are set to hit the runway on September 13, as Vin + Omi’s show kicks off London Fashion Week with a retrospective of the brand’s 20-year history.

The collection features textiles made from plants like nettles, chestnuts, and flax, salvaged from compost at Sandringham, Highgrove, and the Castle of Mey.

Despite seeming like an unlikely partnership, King Charles and the fashion duo share a deep connection in their commitment to sustainability.

The King has provided materials and mentorship for the brand, with 26 of their designs currently on display at Sandringham in an exhibit titled “Royal Garden Waste to Fashion’s Future.” The King was thrilled by the creations, spending over an hour admiring the garments made from his estate’s plant waste.

King Charles first met Vin + Omi in 2018 through the British Fashion Council, leading to multiple collaborations. The King even approved a floral scarf design for the Sandringham gift shop, which recently sold out.

While Vin + Omi’s work is typically reserved for museums like the V&A, their connection with King Charles continues to influence their sustainable fashion mission.

The designers are hopeful that the King might attend their upcoming show, which will be modeled by Olympians, British TV personalities, and American model Josie Stevens.
