My in-laws hosted a lavish dinner at a high-end restaurant to celebrate my son’s graduation, inviting 12 family members. Wanting my parents to be part of the occasion, I invited them as well. My father-in-law covered the $1,700 bill but asked me to pay the 18% tip since I had brought additional guests. I refused and left, while my wife remained silent.

Later that night, I received a distressing text from my wife. She wrote, “Forget about me for a while. You ruined our son’s celebration and embarrassed me in front of my family over a few hundred dollars.”

When I got home, I was shocked to find our bedroom nearly empty—my wife had moved out, taking most of her belongings.

It has now been three days, and she still hasn’t responded to my calls. Despite her anger, I expected her to stand by me instead of placing blame. Her father made my parents feel unwelcome, treating them as if they were intruding.
