A son went to great lengths to surprise his dad on his 80th birthday, traveling 5,000 miles in a hilarious disguise. Tim O’Brien had planned a special birthday celebration, bringing his family from Sacramento, California, to Cork, Ireland. However, his son, Cormac, thought he wouldn’t be able to join in.

Heartwarming footage from early August shows Tim enjoying a drink with family at a pub when a man, wearing glasses and a cap, approached him, offering a pint.

After saying, “Hey, it’s your birthday,” Cormac, 46, removed his disguise, causing the table to erupt in cheers as his dad laughed uncontrollably.

Cormac shared, “It’s not easy getting an 80-year-old to laugh like that, so it was definitely worth it.”

“I couldn’t travel with the rest of the family, but I went through a lot to make it here with my daughter at the last minute.”

“I made three trips to Los Angeles to rush my passport, then we faced 48 hours of delays, even sleeping on airport floors to make it here.”

“My dad is an Irish immigrant who lived the American dream, so we’ve been fortunate to visit Ireland often and experience its culture and heritage.”

“Keeping the surprise from the 40 family members, most of whom live in Ireland, was tough, but it was amazing to see everyone and have my daughter with me.”
