Shocking Discovery in Saint-Étienne: Newborn Found in Trash Room
A horrifying discovery unfolded in the early hours of Sunday, March 24, in an apartment building in Saint-Étienne, located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. Residents, who were disturbed by the sound of a baby crying around 4:30 a.m., were led by the chilling noises to a startling find.
When neighbors emerged from their apartments to investigate the cries, they were horrified to see blood trails leading from the common areas to the building’s trash room, a corridor leading to the basements. To their shock, a newborn baby was found abandoned in a small storage area, alone and vulnerable.
The immediate response was swift. Emergency services were alerted, and the baby, still attached to its umbilical cord and hypothermic, was carefully attended to by paramedics. Despite the alarming situation, doctors confirmed that the infant’s life was not at risk. The baby was quickly transported to the CHU of Saint-Étienne for further medical care.
An investigation was launched by the local police, who are treating the incident as an attempted murder. The authorities expressed that the baby might not have survived had the residents not acted quickly.
Based on the early findings of the investigation, it is believed that the baby’s mother—a 20-year-old woman living in the same building—may have been unaware of her pregnancy until giving birth alone in her bathroom. Afterward, she reportedly abandoned the newborn, leaving it in the trash room. The police followed the blood trail from the trash area to the woman’s apartment, where she was found at home.
The mother is currently receiving medical treatment at the city’s North Hospital and will be questioned by authorities once her health allows. Meanwhile, the investigation into this deeply troubling case continues.
