My 25-year-old daughter is finally getting married, and I couldn’t be more thrilled. I’ve spent my entire life working hard to give her everything she needed—and more. Seeing her happy and successful fills me with pride, and I’ve been eagerly looking forward to her big day.

But then, something happened that left me crushed.

She asked my brother—not me—to walk her down the aisle. I was stunned. “Why not me?” I asked. She looked uncomfortable and simply said, “It’s complicated, Dad.”

Hoping to understand, I spoke to my brother. He seemed reluctant at first, but then shared something that floored me: after our divorce, my ex-wife told our daughter that I had cheated on her. That’s what my daughter believes, and now she feels I don’t deserve the honor of giving her away.

I’m heartbroken. Yes, I’ve made mistakes in the past, but those were between her mother and me. They have nothing to do with the bond I’ve tried so hard to keep with my daughter. I don’t want old wounds to ruin the relationship we have.

What should I do? I truly need your advice.
