I was walking down the street one chilly autumn day when I noticed a little boy, no more than three years old, wandering around in just his indoor clothes—shorts over pants and slippers. I looked around but didn’t see any adults nearby.
It quickly became clear that the toddler had somehow left his home on his own. I gently took his hand and asked where he lived. He was on the verge of tears but pointed toward a nearby building. Together, we walked there.
Fortunately, a few people were chatting on the balcony, so I asked if they recognized the child. About ten minutes later, a panicked grandmother rushed out, thanking me profusely. She explained that her grandson had managed to sneak out of their apartment on the fifth floor for a solo adventure.
In the end, everything turned out fine—but it was a reminder of how quickly little ones can slip away and how important it is to stay alert.
