Teaching a child to be kind is one of the greatest gifts a parent can give, because compassion is what truly makes the world brighter. Nine-year-old Parker Williams is a perfect example of this. He loves going to school, and his favorite part of the day is his teacher, Mrs. Chambers. “She’s an amazing, caring teacher,” Parker says. “She has her own special way of teaching and gives attention to every student.”
One day, Parker saw a news report explaining how poorly teachers in America are paid. Knowing how hard Mrs. Chambers works—and how much she genuinely cares—broke his heart. He felt she deserved far more than what she was getting. So Parker did something remarkable, a gesture that touched thousands once his story spread online.
For his 9th birthday, he received several presents, including $15 in cash. When his parents asked what he planned to do with the money, he kept quiet, already forming an idea. Later, Parker tucked the $15 into a small bag and placed it on top of a handwritten note. It read:
“Dear Mrs. Chambers, I don’t think teachers get paid enough for what they do. So I want you to have this.”
Mrs. Chambers was deeply moved. She couldn’t accept the money, of course, but she was overwhelmed by Parker’s kindness.
She returned the $15 with her own heartfelt message:
“Teachers give everything they have. We take our work home, and our day doesn’t end when the bell rings. It means so much that Parker understands how much we put into teaching.”
When Parker’s parents read her message, they felt immense pride in their son. His mom explained that they’ve always taught Parker to help others however he can. And any time he receives money—whether for his birthday or Christmas—he sets aside 10% to donate to charity.
Adorable, isn’t it?
