My 16-year-old stepson wanted to bring his new girlfriend along on our family holiday to Spain. My husband agreed, but he mentioned that he could only afford four tickets — which meant my 18-year-old daughter had to stay home. I was deeply upset and confronted him, accusing him of choosing a stranger over the stepdaughter he had helped raise since she was seven.

He coldly replied, “That stranger is my son’s guest.” Then he added, “You seem to forget that your daughter’s father is lazy and irresponsible — he never contributes to her trips. Maybe it’s time he takes responsibility.”

I felt completely powerless. In the end, we went to Spain without my daughter because I knew her biological father couldn’t afford to take her on such a trip.

When we came back, I was devastated to find that she had packed her things and moved in with her dad. She now blames me for not standing up for her. I feel heartbroken, lost, and betrayed. I still can’t believe how insensitive my husband was — and how his actions caused such a painful rift in our family. What should I do now?
