Taking care of a toddler is no small task. You’re constantly alert—making sure they’re safe, fed, entertained, and not creating chaos while running on little sleep yourself. It’s exhausting. One Reddit user’s sister was completely overwhelmed caring for her two-year-old and often slipped away for “a quick bathroom break,” leaving her daughter in the care of her teenage brother. But after one too many of these so-called “short favors,” her brother had finally had enough—so he decided to walk out, leaving the little girl alone.
This bold move sparked a storm of reactions online. A 19-year-old shared his emotional and controversial story on Reddit:
“My sister, 26, still lives at home and always asks me to watch her kid for ‘two minutes’ while she goes to the bathroom,” he wrote. “But she never comes back right away—she just hides in there, scrolling on her phone or resting. I know what she’s doing, and it’s frustrating.”
He continued, “Every time, those ‘two minutes’ turn into fifteen or twenty, and she doesn’t answer when I knock. This time, I agreed to help, but I warned her I needed to leave soon. She promised she’d be quick. I played with my niece for a while, but when it was time to go, she still hadn’t come out. I texted her—no response. I called to her—nothing.”
Fed up, the young man decided to teach her a lesson. “I told my niece to go get her mom, and I left. I could hear her crying and running after me as I walked out the door,” he admitted.
When he returned, his sister was furious. “She yelled at me for leaving while her daughter was crying,” he said. “But I told her I had warned her I needed to go. I felt bad, but at the end of the day, she’s not my child.”
