When we get invited to a wedding, our minds usually go straight to the essentials: cake, music, guests, and of course, food. Most of us attend weddings expecting to indulge in delicious, plentiful meals and dance the night away. It’s natural to assume it’ll be a joyful event. But sometimes, things go sideways or don’t turn out quite as we imagined.
Take my aunt’s wedding, for example. Everything was going smoothly—until the big moment arrived. When it was her turn to say “I do,” she suddenly blurted out, “I can’t do this!” and ran off. Sounds bad, right? It got worse. As she was fleeing, her fiancé called out after her, “What about the baby?!” And just like that, we all found out she was pregnant.
Ever attended a wedding that didn’t go as planned? I have another one for you. My cousin got married when he was just 19, and his bride was only 16. Their families couldn’t stand each other—there was constant tension, with relatives from both sides trading insults. The bride’s brother, fresh out of prison, nearly started a fight with two other guests.
To make matters more chaotic, we had to head across town for the marriage registration. Right before the ceremony began, my cousin admitted that the rings had fallen out of his pocket back at the bride’s house—and for some reason, he hadn’t gone back to get them. So there we were, at the wedding, with no rings. It was a complete mess.
